Check group membership

Recognise when the difference between two group weights is misleading.

Match the animals as well as the dates

Compare the ear tags on the opening and closing sheets. Flag arrivals and departures. Equal head counts do not guarantee the same animals were weighed.

Try it yourself

Take two sheets and make three columns: present in both, opening only, closing only. Calculate gain using individual records you can actually match.

From the farm

Worked example

Tags A and B start at 300 and 310 kg, totalling 610 kg. At the end, tags A and C weigh 315 and 340 kg, totalling 655 kg. The 45 kg difference includes a change of animal. Tag A’s verified gain is 315 − 300 = 15 kg.
