Calculate the cost of weight gain
Enter the total weight of the same group at two weigh-ins. Use the cost of keeping those animals between weigh-ins, excluding their purchase price.
Compare the total group weight at the two weigh-ins.
6 000 kg → 6 600 kgCost per kg of gain = cost ÷ (ending weight − starting weight).
Set the boundaries of the calculation
Choose a group with unchanged membership and one period. Subtract its starting weight from its final weight. Divide the group’s growing costs for that period by the gain. Exclude the purchase of the animals and count feed delivery only once.
Try it yourself
Enter the example in the calculator. Keep the gain constant and raise costs to KZT 780,000. Explain why the result rises to KZT 1,300/kg.
From the farm
Worked example
Over 30 days the same 20 cattle go from 6,000 to 6,600 kg in total. Feed and other growing costs come to KZT 720,000. Gain is 6,600 − 6,000 = 600 kg. Cost of gain is 720,000 ÷ 600 = KZT 1,200/kg.
