Build an event timeline

Order reported events and show where no observations exist.

Keep a source for every entry

Use one row per event. Record when the observation happened and, if it was reported later, when the message arrived. Distinguish first-hand observations, reports from another shift and gaps in the log.

Try it yourself

Draw a timeline from 07:00 to 09:30. Mark two observations and separately mark when the message was received. Leave the unobserved interval open.

Worked example

At 08:20 the night shift reports seeing animal 18 by the gate at 07:00. At 09:00 the day shift itself sees animal 18 by the drinker. There are no movement records between 07:00 and 09:00.
