What does a bunk leftover show?

Distinguish a measured leftover from an estimate of intake.

Compare like observation intervals

Log the pen, delivery time and next check. Weigh feed delivered and leftovers removed in the same unit and on the same basis, for example as-fed weight. Note spillage and feed moved elsewhere separately.

Try it yourself

Calculate the leftover share in the case below. Give one reason this record does not give exact intake.

From the farm

Worked example

A pen receives 480 kg. Before the next delivery, 36 kg is removed as leftovers. The measured leftover share is 36 ÷ 480 × 100 = 7.5%. The 444 kg difference was not returned as leftovers; some may have been spilled.
